East London

East London is situated in the Eastern Cape Province, on the south-east coast of South Africa. Originally known as Port Rex, the city abuts the Indian Ocean between the Buffalo and the Nahoon Rivers.

King William's Town

The establishment of the Buffalo Mission Station on the fertile banks of the Buffalo River in January 1826, by Scottish missionary John Brownlee of the London Missionary Society, led to the settlement that would later be known as King William's Town.

Bhisho

Bhisho, formerly the capital of the Ciskei, was granted independence in 1981 and was reincorporated into South Africa in 1994 and whilst seen by some as a suburb of King William's Town, Bhisho is in fact a separate city from King Williams Town altogether.

Mdantsane

The township of Mdantsane, situated between East London and King William's Town, has its roots in the apartheid era and is the second largest township in South Africa after Soweto, and is now home to about 400 000 people.

Surrounding Routes

The Sunshine Coast - white, sandy beaches, stretching for as far as the eye can see. Ben MacDhui - the white, snow-covered slopes of South Africa's only ski resort.

One province - two faces - and numerous others in-between. This is the diverse Eastern Cape.

From the minute you enter the Eastern Cape by road you will find yourself faced with a variety of wonderful tourist routes to choose from.
